On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, The Social Services Office of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem organized a Christmas gathering for a group of Jerusalemite women, with the participation of 34 women, offering a message of hope and consolation amid ongoing challenges.
The gathering opened with a spiritual reflection by Msgr. William Shomali, Patriarchal General Vicar, who reflected on the figures of the Nativity and the lessons they offer in welcoming the birth of the Lord into our lives. He noted that the absence of earthly rulers, such as Emperor Augustus, reminds us that pride can blind people to God’s greatest works, God who transformed the world through His humble and simple birth. He also emphasized that the Magi teach us to offer our true gifts to the Lord: faith, hope, and love, encouraging trust in God’s promises, care, and guidance.
Mr. Sami El-Yousef, Chief Executive Officer of the Latin Patriarchate, reflected on the Patriarchate’s mission of accompanying the Christian community through pastoral care, education, and humanitarian assistance. He emphasized the essential role of the Social Services Office in translating this mission into concrete support for families facing economic and political hardships, especially during the recent period of war.

The program included interactive activities led by Ms. Dima Khoury, Head of the Social Services Department, aimed at strengthening inner resilience, nurturing hope, and fostering mutual support among the participants. A symbolic gift consisting of a candle and a cream, produced by women participating in the Job Creation Program, was distributed in support of women-led initiatives.
In her remarks, Ms. Khoury noted that the gathering provided a safe space for encounter, sharing, and listening, acknowledging the many challenges faced throughout 2025 while affirming that faith and hope in God’s abiding presence continue to unite and sustain the women.
The gathering concluded with heartfelt Christmas wishes, in the hope that this season may mark a renewed beginning of light, peace, and strength in the lives of all participants.
