In Jordan, the 17th World Conference of Christian Youth commenced with an opening mass at the Good Shepherd Church – Our Lady of Peace Center. The mass was presided over by Father Jihad Shweihat, the patriarchal vicar in Jordan, with the participation of several priests from Jordan and other countries. There was a notable presence of youth from Jordan and their families, along with youth representatives from various parts of the world.
In his speech, Father Wajdi Al-Twal, the general spiritual director of Christian Youth in Jordan, appreciated the joint efforts made to host this significant global event. He emphasized that the youth are the beating heart of Jordan and a shining light in the church. In his sermon, Father Shweihat urged the youth to recognize their talents and blessings and to offer them with zeal in service of their country and the church.
At the end of the mass, the global secretary general, Innocent Odongo, thanked the youth groups and their leaders from the participating countries along with the global spiritual director of Christian Youth, Father Achille D'Almeida. Roy Ibrahim, the program coordinator at the global secretariat, also expressed gratitude for all the efforts made in hosting this conference, despite the difficult circumstances as it is being held in the Middle East, a region experiencing many crises. He stressed the importance of witnessing to the truth in a world plagued by crises, in accordance with the theme of this conference.
