With the blessing of His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, the Catechetical Office for Palestine and Jordan took part in the first Middle East Christian Education Conference in Egypt, under the title “Servants of Christian Education in the Footsteps of the Holy Family.”
Representing Palestine were Mr. Adel Mughrabi from the Rosary Sisters School in Beit Hanina, Ms. Alice Anton from the Latin Patriarchate School in Beit Jala, and Ms. Mira Marashdeh from the Latin Patriarchate School in Beit Sahour. Deacon Imad Hijazin also attended on behalf of Jordan, representing the offices of Christian Education and Family.
The conference, held from September 6 to 13, 2024, included participants from several countries, such as Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, the UAE, Kuwait, and Oman. Its focus was on the biblical, theological, and pedagogical formation related to Christian education, particularly concerning 'The Mission of the Family and the Church,' and preparing for the Jubilee of Hope celebration in 2025.
The delegation presented a comprehensive report on the history and mission of the Catechetical Office in the Diocese of Jerusalem. They reviewed the office’s activities over recent years and discussed the mechanisms of catechesis in schools and various programs. Furthermore, they highlighted the challenges and difficulties faced by catechesis in the region.
During their visit, the delegation had the opportunity to explore numerous religious and archaeological sites in Egypt.
