ISRAEL – The Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land sent greetings for Rosh haShana to the leaders of Jewish society in Israel.
On the occasion of the Jewish New Year, the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land and its Committee for Relations with the Jewish People sent greetings to the State President, the Prime Minister, ministers, mayors, Chief Rabbis and government authorities. The message text t read:
« Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Which of you desires life, and covets many days to enjoy good? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry. » (Ps 34:11-15)
We wish you and all our Jewish brothers and sisters a blessed New Year of 5774. During this time of prayers for repentance, revival and renewal and we join our prayers for this country, our troubled region and our world.
In this New Year, may we work together with more commitment, courage and perseverance for justice and peace, for pardon and reconciliation, for all that can be described as “tikkun olam” in this land and throughout the world.
