Prot. N. (1) 1065/2024
To the Bishops, Priests, and Faithful of the Diocese of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem
Object: Pastoral Assignments for Year 2024-2025
Dearest Brothers and Sisters,
May the Lord give you peace!
As every year at this time, I present you the list of the main changes and transfers for priests in the Latin Patriarchate. Other changes are planned, but still require some time to be finalized. They shall be communicated in due time. We have tried to listen to the various requests, although it has not been possible at this time to meet everyone’s wishes, especially for those who have been waiting for some time for a change that they have not had. I thank them for their patience.
Before Christmas, we will try to have a meeting with all priests, to discuss some common issues of the Diocese, but also to focus more on priestly ministry and the role of the priest in the parish.
I would like to thank Fr. Francis Shahin, who has given his willingness to come to the aid of the Liturgical Office to conclude as soon as possible some long awaited projects (Breviary, Lectionary, Proper, Sacraments). Fr. Fares Hattar shall start a new service in Michigan (USA), where the presence of Arab Catholics has been waiting for a stable priest for years. We also decided that a priest should dedicate himself to the service of promoting vocations, which has become really urgent. There have also been some changes among priests serving in other dioceses; others will go to study. As always, it has to be noted that the number of available priests is always less than the demands and various needs, forcing us at times to make difficult choices.
I found in almost all the priests a spirit of obedience and availability. I thank everyone for their understanding and entrust you to the intercession of the Saint Curé d'Ars, patron saint of parish priests. Except in special cases, I ask everyone to be in their new office by August 15. Any exceptions are to be agreed upon with the regional vicars or with me, if necessary.
With best wishes for a time of well-deserved rest to all,
+Pierbattista Card. Pizzaballa
